Lady Warrior Tennis finishes season on Senior Day

STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College women's tennis concluded their season with a 6-1 loss to Evangel University on Senior Day, Saturday, April 18.

The Lady Warriors started with a battle in double play. Greta Fankhauser and Cylie LaTourell came away with a 7-6 victory over Natalia Antkowiak and Lidia Bjelica in No. 2 doubles play. However, a 7-5 loss for Hannah Giordanelli and Danna Arroyo to Rachel Chaney and Maria Morgado Hernandez in No. 1 doubles, and a 6-0 loss for Jessica Gautreau and Elysa Apen in No. 3 doubles to McKylie Cox and Sara Bjelica resulted in a loss of the doubles point for Sterling.

Sterling did not go away quietly. Arroyo tried to get the Lady Warriors back on track with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Chaney in No. 1 singles play. Giordanelli found herself in a battle against Morgado Hernandez in the No. 2 singles match. Giodanelli won the first set 6-4, before losing set two 6-3 and dropping the tiebreaker set 6-2. In no. 3 singles play, Fankhauser lost to Antkowiak 6-4, 6-0.

In No. 4 singles play, LaTourell lost to L. Bjelica 6-4, 6-2. Apen found herself in a similar situation against S. Bjelica in the No. 5 singles match, losing 6-0, 6-0. Gautreau concluded the day for Sterling with a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Cox in No. 6 singles.
