Sterling comes up short against Bethany

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Sterling College women's tennis took on Bethany College on Monday, April 6. Despite some close match ups including two tie breaker sets, the Lady Warriors came up short, losing 6-1.

Sterling started slow, losing the doubles point. Hannah Giordanelli and Greta Fankhauser lost to Ana Sofia Castillo Paz and Makenna Russom, 6-4, in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles play, Danna Arroyo and Jessica Gautreau lost to Helen Harbit and Kyla Metro, 6-1.

The Lady Warriors looked to bounce back in singles play with Arroyo starting off strong with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Castillo Paz in the No. 1 singles play. Hannah Giordanelli battled in No. 2 singles play against Metro. She won the first set 6-0 before losing set two 7-5 and losing the tie breaker set 7-6 (13-11).

In No. 3 singles, Fankhauser also found herself in a battle against Russom. She lost the first set 6-3 and the second set 7-6 (7-1). Gautreau took on Harbit in No. 4 singles but lost 6-1, 6-1. Elysa Aspen had similar struggles in the No. 5 singles play losing to Elise Richardson, 6-0, 6-0.

The Lady Warriors will look to bounce back against Tabor College on Thursday, April 9 at 11 a.m.
