Arroyo gets a win against Saint Mary
STERLING, Kan. – Lady Warrior Tennis took on Saint Mary on a cold and windy Saturday, March 28. Despite the conditions, Dana Arroyo was able to get a point for Sterling with a No. 1 singles victory. However, the Lady Warriors could not rally and lost to the Spires, 6-1.
The Spires started by claiming the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles, Greta Fankhauser and Hannah Giordanelli lost to Shannon Finn and Mia Rojas, 6-0. With a forfeit in No. 3 doubles play, Saint Mary came away with the doubles point, and due to weather, No. 2 doubles play was suspended.
Dana Arroyo started things off strong in singles play with a comeback win against Mia Rojas in No. 1 singles. Arroyo lost the first set 6-2, but came back to win the second set 6-3 and claimed the point with a 10-4 tie-breaker win. Giordanelli represented the Lady Warriors in No. 2 singles where she faced Finn, losing 6-0, 6-3.
In No. 3 singles play, Fankhauser took on Monserrat Guerrero Chapula where she came up short, 6-1, 6-1. Elysa Apen rounded out the field in No. 4 singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Courtney Standley.
