Gautreau with a hat trick in Sterling's win over Hesston

Sterling College secured a 4-2 victory over Hesston College on Thursday. Sterling scored three second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime tie. The home team outshot Hesston 15-17, with nine shots on goal. Hesston's goalkeeper made five saves in the effort.

The first half began with an early advantage for the visitors as Rena Itoga found the back of the net for the Larks in the second minute of play. Sterling's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Bella Duckworth, withstood multiple attempts on goal, including three key saves. The home side leveled the match in the 45th minute when Jessica Gautreau scored her second goal of the season, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

The second half began with a surge from Sterling, as Gautreau found the back of the net in the 46th minute, extending the lead to 2-1. Gautreau continued her impressive performance by scoring again in the 56th minute, maintaining Sterling's edge despite a quick response from Hesston's Trinity Garcia. The half closed with Gautreau completing a hat trick in the 80th minute, solidifying a 4-2 victory for the home team, highlighted by Duckworth's crucial saves and strategic plays throughout.

Gautreau scored four goals from eight shots, five of which were on target, including one game-winning goal. Duckworth made seven saves during the match, allowing two goals from ten shots faced over 90 minutes. Elysa Apen contributed to the offensive effort by taking two shots, both on goal.

Next up, the Lady Warriors (2-0) will take on Williams Baptist (4-1) in Sterling on Saturday, Sept. 6 at noon.
