Warriors fall to Spires, full play cut short due to weather
STERLING, Kan. – Sterling College men's tennis took on the Saint Mary spires on a cold and windy Saturday morning, March 28. With promises of gustier winds in the afternoon, games suspended once the winning points were earned leaving several matches incomplete and the Warriors short 4-0.
The Spires started by earning the doubles point. In No. 2 doubles, Pedro Felipoff and Rubem Bogomoltz came up short, 6-3, against Evan Maritz and Korbin Priestley. Doubles play ended when Cassidy Kelly and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma lost to Mateo Dargel and Carlos Grimaldi 6-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.
Sterling tried to battle back in singles play but to no avail. No. 1, 5 and 6 matches were never completed as the Spires won No. 2, 3 and 4 matches to end play. In the matches that were completed, Fernando Vargas lost to Grimaldi, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 2 singles play. Adam King lost to Maritz, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles and the matches ended when Kazuki Fukushima fell to Priestley, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 4 singles match.
