Sterling falls to Concordia on the road
SEWARD, Neb. – Sterling College men's tennis took on Concordia University on Saturday, Feb. 7 in a tough match up that left the Bulldogs on top, 6-1.
Concordia started with a sweep of the doubles matches with Sterling's Fernando Vargas and Pedro Felipoff losing 6-1 to Hugo Fuentes and Daniel Caballeros in the No. 1 doubles match. In No. 2 doubles, Kazuki Fukushima and Rubem Bogomoltz took on Ben Chisholm and Nick Velders losing 6-0.
Vargas starting things of strong for the Warriors getting the win in the No. 1 match against Fuentes, losing the first game 6-2 but coming back to win the second 6-3 and the tie breaker 10-8. In the No. 2 match, Felipoff lost 6-1, 6-1 to Velders while Rubem Bogomoltz put up a fight in the No. 3 singles match, coming up short to Caballeros 6-2, 7-5.
In No. 4 singles, Adam King lost to Chisholm 6-0, 6-0 while Fukushima made it tough on Michael Bedrosian losing by a slim margin of 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match. Concordia also claimed the No. 6 match point for the 6-1 win.
Sterling will be back in action against Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan. on Friday, March 6.
