Warriors start spring season with a win over Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. – Sterling College men's tennis kicked off the spring season with a 6-1 victory over Hastings College on Friday, Feb. 6.

The Warriors started the meet by claiming the doubles point with Fernando Vargas and Adam King starting things off with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match against Alex Hafer and Ben Hafer. Rubem Bogomoltz and Kazuki Fukushima secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 doubles match against Joel Carter and Aden Ingwerson. In the No. 3 doubles match, Pedro Felipoff and Cassidy Kelly came up short with a 6-1 loss to Ethan Mins and Gavin Watterson.

Felipoff came back strong in the No. 1 singles match against Carter. Although he lost the first set 5-7, he came back with a 6-4 victory in set two and won the tie breaker 1-0 (8). Vargas kept things rolling in the No. 2 singles match against B. Hafer where he won 6-0 in the first set followed by a retirement from B. Hafer in the second set for Vargas to claim the win.

In the No. 3 singles match, King defeated A. Hafer 6-2, 6-2. Bogomoltz also claimed a win in the No. 4 singles match going 6-3, 6-1 over Mins. In the No. 5 singles match, Fukushima defeated Watterson 6-1, 6-0 while Kelly faced Inwerson in the No. 6 singles match, losing 6-0, 6-0.
