Tennis Has Much Success in Opening Tournament

Lindsborg, Kan. – The men's and women's tennis teams opened their fall seasons over the weekend and had great success. They each played in the Bethany Invitational, a tournament without team scoring. Each player is seeded in different levels of draws and then play out an eight person double-elimination tournament in each draw.

Leading the charge for the Lady Warriors was Camila Castro Medina in the F draw, who had the only women's individual win of the tournament. Nadia Margaritov was the Consolation Winner in the B draw. Brooklynn Kuhn ended with a third place finish in the E draw. Sterling had a pair of fourth place finishers in both the C and D draws by Natalia Antkowiak and newcomer Greta Fankhauser, respectively. Giovana Gaboardi finished as runner up in the consolation bracket in the A draw. The Lady Warriors had a runner up finish in the C Doubles draw with a team of Antkowiak and Cylie LaTourell.

As successful as the women were, the men came on even more strong showing their depth this season. Sterling finished first and second in draws C thru F. First place finishers, starting with C and finishing in F, were Adam King, Nicholas Sprenger, Abhyudit Nagar, and David Garces. Second place finishers in the same draws were Louis Boisdenghien, Rubem Bogomoltz, Marko Djukic, and Robin Baransi. Sterling finished in both third and fourth place in the A draw with Kyosuke Ishida finishing third and Pedro Felipoff finishing fourth. In the B draw, Yohann Molle finished second in the Championship bracket and Alexandre Gaboardi finished runner up in the Consolation bracket. The men finished first in the C doubles draw behind the solid play of Nagar and Sprenger. They also received runner up finishes in the A and B draw with Boisdenghien/King in the A draw, and Felipoff/Bogomoltz in the B draw.

No team placing was given in the tournament as it was all based on individual performance. Sterling returns this weekend to the court, once again in Lindsborg, Kan. for the KCAC Fall Championship tournament. Play starts at 9 am.
