Warriors post nine season best times at IWCC Invite

The Sterling College swim team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 11 to compete in the Iowa Western Invite in a triangular against Iowa Western Community College and Morningside University.

As a team, the swimmers posted two personal best times, nine season bests, and Bree Pickerell posted the second fastest time in school history in the 1000Y freestyle. She won the event with a time of 11:45.69.

Pickerell also posted a personal best in the 100Y backstroke where she finished second with a time of 1:08.17. Allison Reed also competed in the 100Y backstroke, finishing fifth with a time of 1:16.91.

Another top performer for the Lady Warriors was Abby Cagle, she finished second in the 50Y freestyle with a season best time of 26.59. Campbell Elliott and Hilde Heskett also competed in the 50Y freestyle, swimming times of 28.32 and 29.43 to finish seventh and eighth, respectively.

Elliott also set a season best time in the 100Y butterfly, posting a time of 1:16.91 to finish third.

In the 100Y freestyle, Cagle swam a time of 1:03.14 to finish sixth. Reed swam a personal best in the 200Y freestyle and finished seventh with a time of 2:18.48.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Reed, Elliott, Cagle and Heskett swam a time of 2:09.56 to finish third. Cagle, Reed, Elliott and Pickerell competed in the 400Y freestyle relay finishing third with a time of 4:10.64.

On the men's side, Parker Rea swam a season best time in the 50Y and 100Y freestyle finishing eighth and 12th with times of 24.47 and 54.81. Juwayne "JJ" Silmon also posted a season best in the 50Y freestyle swimming a time of 25.11 to place 10th. Gavin Turner swam a time of 27.56 in the 50Y freestyle to place 12th.

Ian Esquivel swam a season best time in the 200Y freestyle with a time of 2:12.99 to place 11th. Silmon and Esquivel both competed in the 100Y butterfly, finishing eighth and ninth with times of 1:05.44 and 1:05.48, respectively.

Turner competed in the 100Y backstroke placing seventh with a time of 1:14.37.

The team of Silmon, Turner, Esquivel and Rea finished off the day in the 400Y freestyle finishing eighth with a time of 3:55.80.

The Warriors will be back in action at the University of Nebraska – Kearney (UNK) Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 8 in Kearney, Neb.
