Warriors get big win over McPherson

Sterling College Warriors clinched a robust victory against the McPherson College Bulldogs with a final score of 87-72 in the Gleason Center on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Sterling demonstrated a balanced offense and tenacious defense which translated into a much needed win for the Warriors.

From the outset, the Warriors set the tone with Mooch Austin leading the charge. Austin, who finished with a game-high 24 points and 5 assists, was instrumental throughout the game. His efforts were complemented by Jayden Garrison and Jimmy Causey Jr, each contributing 12 points. The first half concluded with the Warriors ahead, marking a halftime score of 47-38 in favor of Sterling College.

The second half saw the Warriors continue to dominate, extending their lead to 15 points by the game's close. Noteworthy defensive efforts included Elias Ngoga with five blocks and the team's overall defensive strategy which stifled the Bulldogs' attempts to close the gap. Offensively, Sterling shot an impressive 51% from the field, including 45% from beyond the arc, underscoring a solid shooting performance.

Additional contributions came from Chris Drake and Julian Smith, each grabbing 7 rebounds and scoring 11 points, bolstering the Warriors' inside game.

Up next for the Warriors (9-12, 14-13) is a matchup against Evangel University (9-11, 12-14) on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Springfield, Mo. The team looks to carry this winning momentum forward as they strive to improve their season record further and make a run for the conference tournament.
