Chuck Lambert Resigns As Head Football Coach
STERLING, Kan. – The Sterling College Athletic Department announced the resignation of Head Football Coach Chuck Lambert on Sunday. Lambert is in candidacy for an Associate Pastor Position at Grace Bible Church in Hutchinson, Kan.
"I absolutely love what Chuck Lambert has done with our program and the values that he has instilled in our athletes and assistant coaches," said Athletic Director Gary Kempf. "We spend our life looking to make a difference and what an incredibly positive difference Chuck has made for Sterling College and for Sterling College football. While we will miss him, I greatly respect his commitment to his faith and his next calling. He will always be part of our family and the Sterling College Football program."
In his two years as head coach, Lambert has finished with a 17-6 overall record and a KCAC record of 15-3, reaching the NAIA-Football Championship Series First Round both seasons.
The past two years have been two of the most successful seasons for the Sterling College football program, with the Warriors reaching the NAIA-Football Championship Series in 2016 and 2017, as well as winning the KCAC Conference Championship this fall. Lambert was also selected as the KCAC Coach of the Year in 2017. During the last two seasons, Sterling had 28 All-Conference winners, including three KCAC Players of the Year and three AFCA-NAIA All-Americans.
Lambert has served on Sterling's coaching staff for the past 14 seasons, recently becoming the head coach in 2015. During his time at Sterling, the Warriors won the KCAC Championship two times (2013, 2017) and reached the NAIA-Football Championship Series three times (2013, 2016, 2017). Lambert also coached a number of All-KCAC Conference award winners and All-Americans during his time at Sterling and was named the Coach of the Year twice.
"The last 14 seasons here at Sterling have been so very special for my family and myself," said Chuck Lambert. "The relationships and the experiences that I have been a part of during my time here, have created a place in my heart that I will cherish forever. I am thankful for this opportunity that I had here at Sterling and I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey."
The Sterling College Athletic Department will immediately begin it's search to name a new head coach for the Football program.
"With the tremendous success of our Football program in recent years, we don't anticipate any trouble in finding a great new leader for this program." said Kempf.
