15 Warriors Named To All-Conference Football Teams
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2017 Football All-Conference selections and individual award winners as voted on by the head coaches.
(16) Sterling College and (17) Tabor College are the KCAC Regular Season Champions with 8-1 conference records. Chuck Lambert, the Warriors' head coach, was unanimously named KCAC Coach of the Year by his peers.
Tabor's Evan Sprayberry is the 2017 KCAC Player of the Year, while Offensive Player of the Year is awarded to Darryl Terrell (SO/Muskegon, Mich.) of Sterling. Defensive Player of the Year honors go to Tim Hamilton of Friends, Southwestern's Mario Esparza took home the Special Teams Player of the Year award, Kansas Wesleyan's Christian McQueen is the Dr. Ted Kessinger award recipient, and the Coyotes' John Michaletti has been named Assistant Coach of the Year.
Darryl Terrell was awarded the 2017 KCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Terrell was also a unanimous All-KCAC First Team selection at Wide Receiver, leading the KCAC in Receptions and Receiving Yards. Terrell finished the regular season with 10 touchdowns, collecting a total of 79 receptions for 964 yards, while also adding 36 carries for 159 yards.
Aaron Chisolm (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) was a unanimous All-KCAC First Team selection at Running Back. Chisolm was the second leading rusher in the KCAC, racking up a total of 1,006 yards on the ground for the Warriors. Chisolm finished with 10 touchdowns in the regular season, while also setting a career high of 208 rushing yards against McPherson.
Rigo Guzman (SO/Thermal, Calif.) was named an All-KCAC First Team Offensive Lineman. Guzman waplayed well on the offensive line, helping the Warriors establish a consistent rushing attack, while giving time for the offense to develop, all while continuing to pound away at the opposing defenses.
Swain Williams (SR/Bellflower, Calif.) was an All-KCAC First Team selection at Lineback. Williams leads Sterling with 79 tackles this season, leading the Warriors with 15 tackles for a loss. He has also added seven pass break ups, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception for Sterling.
Kenya Edner (SR/Pittsburg, Calif.) was named an All-KCAC First Team Defensive Back. Edner leads the Warriors with 100 tackles this season, averaging 9.1 tackles per game, the 5th best in the KCAC. Edner has also added four forced fumbles, three pass break ups and two tackles for a loss this season.
Maurice Rucker (SO/Modesto, Calif.) was an All-KCAC First Team selection at Kick Returner. Rucker was finished with 17 returns for 481 yards in the regular season, averaging 28.3 yards per return for the Warriors, proving to be one of top kick returners in the conference.
Dezmond Howard (SR/Montgomery, Ala.) was named All-KCAC Second Team at Linebacker. Howard had another solid seaosn at the inside linebacker position for the Warriors, finishing third on the team with 66 tackles, inclduing 14.5 for a loss. Howard has also added three pass break ups, three forced fumbles, an interception, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick for Sterling this season.
Ray Winfield (SR/San Antonio, Texas) was an All-KCAC Second Team selection at Defensive Back. Winfield was fourth on the team in tackles with 49, while also added 1.5 tackles for a loss. Winfield also added two interceptions for the Warriors, returning them for a combine 71 yards, along with seven pass break ups and a force fumble for Sterling this season.
Michael Winstead (SR/Pearland, Texas) was named an All-KCAC Second Team Punter. Winstead had a 47 punts for a total of 1883 yards in the regular season for the Warriors, averaging 40.1 yards per punt. Winstead also had a career long 86-yard punt this season for Sterling. Along with his punting duties, Winstead connected on eight field goals for the Warriors, including a long of 39.
Eric Butler (SO/Wichita Falls, Texas) was an All-KCAC Honorable Mention at Quarterback. After stepping up in the quarterback role early in the season, Butler kept the Warrior offense moving in the right direction. Butler threw for 1,885 yards and 13 touchdowns, the 5th best total in the KCAC this season. Butler also did work on the ground this season, collecting a total of 617 yards on the ground with eight touchdowns.
Nathan Hiatt (JR/Nickerson, Kan.) was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at Offensive Line. Hiatt was a key force up front for the Warriors, setting the tone at the line and giving the offense opportunities to score. He also added a rushing touchdown this season for the Warriors.
James Chancellor (FR/Mulvane, Kan.) was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at Offensive Line. Chancellor stepped into a starting role this season for the Warriors as a freshman and was key in protecting the quarterback and allowing the offense to run effectively.
Dezmon Walker (SR/Detroit, Mich.) was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at Defensive Line. Walker helped lead a strong defensive line, collecting 26 tackles on the season. He also finished with 13.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Dominique Wilkins (SR/Orlando, Fla) was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention at Defensive Line. Despite battling injuries throughout the seaosn, Wilkins was a key part of the defensive line at the nose guard position. Wilkins added 13 tackles this season, inlcuding one for a loss and added a pass break up for the Warriors.
Koltyn Ratliff (SR/Ness City, Kan.) was an All-KCAC Honorable Mention selection at Lineback. Ratliff was fifth in tackles for the Warriors, collecting a total of 41. Ratliff added 4.5 tackles for a loss and sack, as well as three blocked kicks, three pass break ups, and a fumble recovery.
Chuck Lambert was named KCAC Coach of the Year. In his two seasons as head coach, Lambert has a 17-5 overall record and led Sterling to the 2017 KCAC Regular Season Championship. Lambert has also led the Warriors to the NAIA Football Championship Series in back-to-back seasons. Lambert was also awarded the KCAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2010 while at Sterling.
