KCAC Football Media Day a Success
SALINA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) held its annual Football Media Day at the Salina Country Club in Salina, Kan. on Wednesday. All ten KCAC coaches gave a preview of their 2012 squads and were available for questions from the media at the event. At the conclusion of the event, the KCAC announced both the KCAC Preseason Media Poll and KCAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sterling finished eighth in the Media Poll and sixth in the Coaches' Poll.
Coach Andy Lambert opened the Media Day with an invocation before lunch was served. The program then began with the introduction of Kansas Wesleyan's David Toelle as Sports Information Director of the Year. All ten coaches then presented and the polls were announced at the conclusion of the program.
Lambert highlighted Sterling's defense in his preview, mentioning the experience of the front seven. Defensively, Lambert discussed how SC must replace all four starting secondary members, but felt that there are strong candidates to keep the Warrior defensive tradition alive.
Ottawa University was picked first in the KCAC Media Poll, followed by Friends, Bethany, Saint Mary, Kansas Wesleyan, Tabor, Southwestern, Sterling, McPherson, and Bethel.
In the Coaches' Poll, Ottawa was again picked first, followed by Bethany, Friends, Kansas Wesleyan, Saint Mary, Sterling, Tabor and McPherson tied at seventh, Southwestern , and Bethel.
The Warriors begin their football season on Sept. 1 at Benedictine College at 1:00 pm. Sterling's home opener is on Sept. 15 at 6:00 pm against Kansas Wesleyan.
