[Baseball] Warriros Fall Short in Avista-NAIA World Series Opener

LEWISTON, Idaho – In their first ever appearance at the Avista-NAIA World Series, the Warriors fell to Missouri Baptist 8-3. A six run Missouri Baptist bottom of the third sealed Sterling's trip to the loser's bracket as the Warriors were unable to muster the offensive fire power to complete a comeback.

Game one is scheduled for Friday at 9:00 am Pacific Standard Time against Missouri Baptist. If the Warriors win they will face #1 seed Faulkner University on Saturday at 3:00 pm. If the Warriors would lose they will face the loser of the #4 Northwood / #5 The Master's College on Saturday at 9:00 am.

EMPORIA, Kan. - Sophomore Kimberly Garrett was all business at the Sam Williams Twilight Qualifier Meet hosted by Emporia State on Saturday, May 11. Garrett who was coming off of a stellar performance at the KCAC meet just three days earlier had unfinished business she wanted to take care of before her season was officially over. Garrett accomplished that business by qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan at the end of May.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (Bracket | Live Video) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the official seeds and bracket for the 2013 Avista-NAIA World Series, hosted by Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) from May 24 – 31 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho. Faulkner (Ala.) received the No. 1 seed in the 57th annual event with an Opening Round championship at the Montgomery Bracket.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – With a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma City, No. 15 Sterling (Kan.) will make its first ever trip to the NAIA World Series. Sterling can now add the title NAIA Oklahoma City Opening Round Champion to the titles of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Co-Champion and KCAC Tournament Champion. The Warriors held Oklahoma City, who is 14th in the NAIA with 7.085 runs scored per game, scoreless on just three hits on the way to a victory.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Warriors started off hot in their game against Jamestown (N.D.) on Friday afternoon in the NAIA Opening Round, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning on the way to a 13-3 smashing of the Jimmies. With the win, Sterling vaults into the Oklahoma City Opening Round Championship Series and is one win away from the 57th Annual NAIA Baseball World Series.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Andrew Clark's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted No. 15 Sterling College over No. 23 Science and Arts (Okla.) in the first round of the NAIA Opening Round in Oklahoma City on Thursday. The five run fifth inning propelled Sterling into the lead, which the Warriors would not relinquish in the 8-5 victory.

WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling competed well, but Friends University won both the Men's and Women's team titles at the 2013 KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It was the second straight title for the Friends Men's team, and the fourth consecutive for the Women's team. Sterling finished fifth on the women's side and eighth on the men's side.

WICHITA, Kan. – The Sterling College baseball team earned 17 different All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) individual awards. Joe Williams led the way for Sterling, being named the KCAC Player of the Year and First Team All-KCAC.

WICHITA, Kan. – Four Sterling College Lady Warriors earned 2013 Softball All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Honors. Yolanda Alailefaleula was Sterling's only All-KCAC First Team member. Both Jessica Steere and Ashli Bell earned All-KCAC Second Team honors and Kelly Hannah was named to the All-KCAC Honorable Mention list.

HILLSBORO, Kan. - The Warriors ended their season with some great performance and competition at the 2013 KCAC Championships held in Hillsboro, Kan. this past week. With the meet being moved from the previous Thursday and Friday to Monday and Tuesday, the weather was perfect and each and every Warrior took full advantage of the perfect conditions. The Warriors would end the two day meet with PR's, School Records, All KCAC and Honorable Mention performances and KCAC Individual Champions.
