Head Coach
6th Season

Head men's basketball coach Dean Jaderston begins his 6th season at Sterling. During his tenure at Sterling the Warriors have finished no lower than 5th in the final season standings.

The 2011 Warriors used a late season run to win the KCAC Regular Season Championship and KCAC Tournament Championship, earning a trip to the NAIA National Tournament. This Warrior team was the first from Sterling to win both men's basketball championships in the same season.

In 2009 the Warriors raised the bar, setting a single season school record with 21 wins and earning the KCAC regular season championship for the first time since 1995. The Warriors earned their 3rd trip to the NAIA national tournament in the last 8 years and were ranked as high as 17th in the nation during that stretch.

Coach Jaderston attended Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN where he earned a double major in History/Secondary Education and Bible and Theology. He competed in both tennis and basketball for the Crusaders, earning several conference singles and doubles championships in tennis and All-Conference, All-American, and Academic All-American honors in basketball.

After college, Coach Jaderston began a teaching career at Rosemount High School in Minnesota, where he also coached both tennis and basketball. After 8 years at Rosemount, he was selected to be the inaugural head boy's basketball coach at Eastview High School in 1997. During this time he also earned his master's degree in Adlerian Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Adler Institute in Hopkins, MN.

In 2001, he made the move to the collegiate ranks when he was hired by Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL. After some major rebuilding, the Trojans achieved their first winning season in 9 years in 2006, Coach Jaderston's last year at TIU before coming to Sterling College.

Since coming to Sterling, Coach Jaderston has seen steady improvement in the Warrior program. The Warriors have shown incredible tenacity and a great work ethic. Fans have come to appreciate gritty defensive play paired the team's up-tempo offensive style, and have been treated to some tremendous come-from-behind victories over the past few years.

Coach Jaderston and his wife Julie have been married for 24 years. They have been very active in youth and camping ministries over the years, having served together as youth directors at several churches, including their current church, CrossPoint Sterling. They also served as the senior high program directors for 19 years at a summer Christian family conference, Northern Pines of MN, and in 2007 accepted the position of Executive Directors of the conference (you can visit the conference website at http://www.npines.org/). They have 3 sons, Matthew (22) and Michael (20), who are both in college, and Jacob (17) who is a junior at Sterling High School.
