STERLING, Kan. - With a sweep of the Johnson and Wales (Colo.) Wildcats, the Lady Warriors finished the Sterling College Invitational unbeaten not only in matches, but also in sets. Behind strong plays by both returners and newcomers, the Lady Warriors dominated in the Gleason Center on their way to a 5-0 start to the 2012 season.
Against the Wildcats, Sterling never let off the gas pedal, winning set one 25-15, set two 25-17, and set three 25-9.
Ciara Ramos was the player of the match for Sterling, using a 0.579 hitting percentage to convert on 12 kills while collecting five blocks. Sara Steria was also in double figure kills for Sterling with 11 and had 14 digs defensively. Carly Cramton nearly had double figure kills with nine.
Adriana Gonzalez spread the ball well as seven different Lady Warriors had kills in the game. Gonzalez had 35 assists.
As a team, Sterling hit 0.423 while holding the Wildcats to a -0.032 hitting percentage.
With the win, Sterling is now 5-0 on the season. Next weekend, the Lady Warriors face a tough test in Las Vegas, Nev. at the University of Great Falls Tournament. Sterling faces No. 7 Rocky Mountain College at 7:00 pm on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady Warriors face a University of Great Falls team that is receiving votes in the national poll at 10:00 am, and then plays No. 21 Carroll College at 2:00 pm. The Lady Warriors finish the weekend with a game against Montana State University-Northern at 6:00 pm.
