STERLING, Kan. - The Sterling College Lady Warrior volleyball team opened up the 2012 season by going 2-0 in the first day of the Sterling College Invitational in Sterling, Kan. SC swept both games in three sets, defeating Manhattan Christian (Kan.) 25-10, 25-10, 25-23 and Oklahoma Wesleyan 25-14, 26-24, 25-13. Sterling showed strong play across the floor, including big contributions from the freshmen class.

Against Manhattan Christian, the Lady Warriors were led by senior Sara Steria with 11 kills on 24 attacks with only three errors for a 0.333 hitting percentage. Senior Adriana Gonzalez had a double-double, dishing out 24 assists while collecting 10 digs. Hayley Ray, a freshman from Derby, Kan., stepped onto the scene for SC with 10 kills on 18 attacks with only one error for a 0.500 hitting percentage while collecting two blocks.

In the game against Oklahoma Wesleyan, Steria would continue to dominate. During the match, Steria collected 11 kills on 18 attacks with only one error for a 0.556 hitting percentage and collected 10 digs. Ray was big for Sterling as well, getting nine kills on 19 attacks with no errors for a 0.474 hitting percentage while roaming the net for five blocks. Gonzalez added 33 assists in the match.

The Lady Warrior (2-0) will be in action again tomorrow starting at 9:00 pm against Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.), again at 12:00 pm against Southwestern Christian (Okla.), and finishing up against Johnson and Wales (Colo.) at 1:30 pm.
