Men's Outdoor Track & Field - Sun, May. 6, 2012

STERLING, Kan. - Sterling College played host to the 2012 KCAC Track & Field Championships this past week and the Running Warriors didn't disappoint the home crowd. With one event champion, two KCAC runner ups, three third place finishes, two school records and 10 honorable mention KCAC performances; Sterling track finished the season on a high note on their home turf.

Jillian Linnebur highlighted the KCAC Championships by winning the women's 800m run with a time of 2:22.12. Along with her individual title, Linnebur anchored both the 4x800m relay and the 4x400m relays that finished as KCAC Runner Up. The 4x8 relay consisting of Julie Penner, Bay Baker, Amber Balvin and Linnebur ran a season best time of 9:58.40. On the 4x400 relay Heather Simpson, Kimberly Garrett, Amber Balvin and Linnebur fell just short of beating Southwestern once again with a season best time of 4:10.50.  Kimberley Garrett bounces back huge from a season plagued with injuries to finish 3rd in the 400m hurdles, Garrett's time of 1:08.55 was over four seconds faster that she had run previously during the season.

A trio of pole vaulters earned KCAC Honorable Mention honors by placing 5th and tying for 6th. Freshman Brianne Hopper was fifth followed by Jennifer Lies and Alyssa Kieffer. Hopper also earned KCAC HM honors in the high jump finishing 5th in her only time to jump this year.

Sara Doll played a huge role in Sterling's success over the course of the meet scoring a total of 13 points for the Lady Warriors as well as breaking the school record in the 3000m steeple chase (her 4th school record overall). Doll finished 4th in both the 10,000m and the steeple chase and was 6trh in the 5,000m.

On the men's side the 4x800m relay kicked things off on Thursday with a solid 3rd place finish to get them a medal and set the tone for the rest of the meet. Tanner Ball, Cody Rodriquez, Chris Penner and Austin Gautier's time of 8:04.74 was just off their season best of 8:04.50 which broke a 23 year old school record of 8:08.5 back in 1989. Penner wasn't done medaling for the meet and returned in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.6 to finish 3rd overall and re-break his own school record. Ball earned KCAC HM as well in the 800 by placing 6th. David Cesmat ran a PR (15.52) in the 110m hurdles placing 4th to earn KCAC HM.  Jacob Brown also had a huge PR in the 400m hurdles to place 6th with his time of 58.27.
