GREAT BEND, KAN. – The Sterling College Baseball team continued play at the KCAC Baseball Championships in Great Bend on Friday night, taking on York College in the nightcap of the tournament. The Warriors made the most of their at bats, earning the win over the Panthers, 11-5.

The Warriors would get on the board in the first inning, using hits from Miguel Reyes and Javoni Thomas to take a 1-0 lead, starting the momentum in favor of Sterling. An error in the field by the Panthers, allowed Sterling to continue their strong start, as Jake Schimenz would single to right-center, scoring two more runs to put the Warriors ahead 3-0. York connected on early hits of their own in the first two innings, but solid defense in the field by the Warriors, kept the Panthers off track early, as the Sterling would lead 3-0 heading into the third.

Sterling added to their lead in the third inning, behind a solo homerun over left by Kyle Ulanday, along with base hits from Nicholas Domitrovich and Corey Davis to add two more, as the Warriors would jump ahead 6-0. The Panthers would answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom of third to make it 6-2, but a three-run homerun sent over center field by Nicholas Domitrovich in the top of the fourth, put the Warriors ahead 9-2.

York continued to chip away at the Sterling lead, scoring runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it 9-5. However, the Warriors continued their strong hitting performance at the plate, as Nicholas Domitrovich would crush another ball over left field for a solo homerun, to give Sterling a 10-5 lead. The Warriors added another run late in the ninth inning, as Jake Schimenz would score off a ball hit by Eric Skogseth, putting Sterling ahead 11-5. York attempted their chance at a late comeback, but the Warriors proved to be too much for the Panthers, as Sterling would defeat York, 11-5.

Nicholas Domitrovich led Sterling with three hits and four RBIs, while five other Warriors collected a hit in the game. KCAC Freshman of the Year, Colton Tison picked up the win on the mound, finishing with three strikeouts, while Ryo Takenaka, Chase Jones, and Tyler Charlo all contributed late in the game, combining for four Ks.

Sterling (37-16) will now face No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan University, today at 11 a.m. All the games will be live via the KCAC Digital Network.
