The Sterling College Track & Field team will send three representatives to Pittsburg State University on Friday, January 29th to compete in the 2016 Pittsburg State Invitational. With a new state-of-the-art facility to compete in, the three selected Warriors will have a prime opportunity to run fast and race against some amazing competition from across the country.
Lucas Garrett (JR/Bennington, Kan.), Madison Caffrey (JR/Mount Hope, Kan.), and Lora Bebermeyer (SO/Sedgwick, Kan.) were selected to compete in this week's meet based on previous performances. With entries topping out at over 2,660, only 2,100 were selected and will have the opportunity to show the Midwest their talent.
Lora Bebermeyer will kick off the evening for the Warriors in the 600 yard dash at 5:25pm. This will be Lora's first time running the 600 yard distance; she currently ranks 4th in the KCAC and 35th in the NAIA in the 600m run with a personal best time of 1:43.45. Natalie Gordon holds the indoor 600m school record with a time of 1:36.83, set at the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, TN. Coincidentally, this year's 2016 Indoor Championships will be back in Johnson City.
Lucas Garrett will follow with the men's 800m race at 7:10pm, where he brings in a season best time of 2:02.18 that currently ranks him 10th in the KCAC and 72nd in the NAIA. Garrett stands a solid chance to break the 2:00 barrier and set a new school indoor record, currently held by Chris Penner at 2:00.19. The NAIA qualifying standard for the men's 800m race is 1:56.85
Madison Caffrey will step on the track at 7:35pm for the women's 800m race, her first 800m race of this indoor season. Caffrey is coming off a 2015 outdoor campaign in which she ran a personal best time of 2:23.59, one of the faster times in school history. Caffrey currently has a season best time in the 1000m of 3:16.04. Caffrey will be chasing the school record of 2:20.71, held by Jillian Linnebur, and a national qualifying time of 2:19.50.

Robert W. Plaster Center
The Robert W. Plaster Center is a state-of-the-art facility that will host a variety of university and community events. University, city and state officials broke ground on the Plaster Center during a special ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 and the building was officially dedicated on April 21, 2015.
The Plaster Center is named for Robert W. Plaster, the founder of Empire Gas Company and a philanthropist who created the Robert W. Plaster Foundation. Established in 1983, the foundation is dedicated to helping students by funding projects for colleges and universities.
The $13 million, 154,000-square-foot facility was completed in Spring 2015, It includes a 100-yard turf field, an 11,000-square-foot modern strength facility, a 300-meter track and seating for up to 1,500.
