JACKSON, MISS. – The Warriors continued to play in the Jackson Bracket facing the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars for the second time this tournament. Winner of this game would move on to play Belhaven for a chance to play in the championship game and the loser would be eliminated. Sterling came out swinging in the game and got close but was never able come back from their early deficit and lose to Houston-Victoria to a score of 3-2.
The Jaguars would get on the board in the bottom of the first from two hits and a rbi ground-out to take a quick 2-0 lead. Sterling would finally be able to respond back when Jake Schimenz (FR/Milwaukee, WI) would score on a rbi single from Luke Miller (SR/West Jordan, UT) to cut the lead to one. Houston-Victoria answered back in the next half inning to take back a two run lead over the Warriors. Then in the fifth inning with runners on base, the Jaguars would balk in a run to help Sterling stay within one swing of the bat from taking back the lead. The Warriors would try and continue to grind out at-bats to help set up a big inning to take back the game but would not be able to get that big and would lose 3-2 to Houston-Victoria and eliminated from the national tournament.
With this loss, Sterling finishes with a 40-20 record and a 18-10 record in the KCAC.
