JACKSON, MISS. – The Warriors looked to continue their 2014 season and also to continue their quest to back to the World Series. Sterling would face a familiar and formidable foe in Oklahoma City University in the first elimination game of the Jackson Bracket. The Warriors would fight hard and valiantly win the game and would get the upper hand on the Stars by eliminating Oklahoma City for the second straight year with a score of 3-1.
Pitching was the pinnacle of this game, as Sterling would through Blake Oliver (JR/Mesquite, TX) to help get to the next round. Oliver would turn in one of his better performances of the stacked Oklahoma City lineup. Oliver would throw a complete game, go all nine innings, allow one run, and strike out two Stars in the 3-1 victory.
At the plate, Rick Rodriguez, would have the biggest day at the plate for both sides. Rodriguez would collect two hits including a solo home run and a rbi triple to the right-center field gap to extend the Warrior lead and help earn the victory over Oklahoma City.
With this win, Sterling will play tonight at 6:00 pm against the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars at Smith-Wills Stadium. This will be the second elimination game of the tournament and will be a rematch of the first game where the Jaguars would win 5-2 over Sterling.
